Hello Michigan, Florida, Good Bye Aging Hippie
I am a strong, strong supporter of Senator Clinton's bid to be the nominee of the Democratic Party. If, however, she makes a bid to have the delegations from the Florida and Michigan primaries seated my support ends; considering that I have already contributed $20 to her campaign, I am sure my absence would be troubling.
The rules concerning super delegates are clear and have been clear. I'm not a big fan of super delegates but there is an open competition for them as the rules currently stand. Although Senator Obama has expressed his desire that the super delegates vote in accord with the results of the elections/conventions/caucuses in each state, he has also been courting the supers. I have no problem, ruleswise, with Senator Clinton courting super delegates.
The rules concerning the delegates from the Michigan and Florida primaries have also been clear: they would not be seated and they would not be counted. To change the rules at this late date would be dishonest and beneath Senator Clinton. While I understand the concern of the NAACP that voters in these states - particularly minority voters - are being disenfranchised I am at a loss as how the previous, I believe erroneous decision, can be rectified. It was wrong to disenfranchise the voters to begin with but it is also difficult at this point in the campaign to institute a convention or caucus that addresses all aspects of fairness.
I believe that until now HRC and her staff have played hard but fair and I am proud of her. I want to continue to be proud of Senator Clinton, I can't be if she circumvents the rules of which all parties were aware.
